Frequently asked questions – and their answers!

 

What fabrics do you use?

I can use all sorts of fabrics, but I have a few favourites! Harris Tweed is my first love, and I love the tradition and heritage in this handwoven fabric, as well as the wide range of colours and patterns, as well as the fact that I can buy it direct from the weavers in the Outer Hebrides. My other big favourite is military uniform! As a former Royal Air Force Photographer I have a real love for the uniform, and for all that it means to the people who wear it. I love the fact that I can help people to get their old uniforms out of the dusty loft and onto their arms! I also dabble a little with leather, and also use cork fabric, a wonderful fabric produced in Portugal, also known as cork leather as it has similar properties to leather, being tough and waterproof.

Do you do different styles?

               Yes!  Although my main style in a small-ish handbag style, I can either make the same style in a larger, shoulder bag version, or I can make any kind of style you like – just let me know and I’ll see what I can come up with!

Who provides the fabric/uniform?

If you have your old uniform which you are happy for me to use, then I can give you an address to send it to.  Alternatively if you don’t have your old uniform (or can’t bear to think of it getting chopped up!) then I can source the uniform and badges for you, for an additional cost. Lining fabric, handles, buckles etc.. are all included in the price, and I’m happy to try and hunt down the perfect lining fabric for you, just tell me your trade (or favourite hobby!) and I’ll see what I can find.

Can I choose additional badges/rank etc…?

No problem, just let me know what you want and I’ll see what I can do.  Please note, there may be an additional cost for some of these items.

 

How do I order?

               There are a couple of ways you can order.  If you know what you want, then you can order via my website www.handbagsandhome.co.uk or go straight to my Etsy shop handbagsandhome.etsy.com and do it all through there, alternatively, if you want to discuss your bag before ordering then you can message me via my Facebook page www.facebook.com/handbagsandhome.

 

How do I pay?

               If you place your order via my website or my Etsy shop then payment is via those sites, or if you would prefer to pay in stages you can message me via my Facebook page www.facebook.com/handbagsandhome and I can email you a PayPal invoice with an option of paying a 50% deposit to place your order, with the remaining balance to be paid once I’ve completed your order, before I post it out to you.

 

How long will my order take?

               Due to large numbers of orders please allow 2 – 4 weeks for completion, although at particularly busy times this may rise to 4 – 6 weeks. If you would like your order for a special date then please let my know and I will do my best to meet the deadline!

 

How is my order sent?

               All items over £50 in value are sent Royal Mail First Class Signed for.  If you would prefer a different postal service then please let me know.
